5200 Bearing Caps
You are looking at one of the simplest, yet most essential, components for your trailer’s long-term health. The bearing cap, often called a dust cap or grease cap, is the final, critical barrier protecting your entire wheel-end assembly.
Its job is to seal the end of the hub and protect your outer bearing, spindle nut, and the all-important grease from the three things that will destroy them: water, dirt, and road salt.
A missing, damaged, or poorly-fitting bearing cap is a direct invitation for catastrophic failure.
-
Water Intrusion: Rain, puddles, or road spray can get past a bad seal. Water emulsifies (mixes with) the bearing grease, turning it into a milky, watery slurry that loses all its lubricating properties. This quickly leads to rust and bearing burnout.
-
Dirt & Grime Intrusion: Dust, sand, and road grit will turn your clean grease into an abrasive “slurry” that acts like liquid sandpaper, grinding down your bearing rollers and races.
This will rapidly lead to a “hot” bearing, wheel wobble, and eventual wheel lock-up or separation on the highway. Don’t let a small, inexpensive part cause a costly and dangerous repair.
Selecting Your Replacement Cap
The bearing caps listed here are high-quality, metal caps designed to create a perfect, press-fit seal on our Flexiride® axle hubs.
A proper fit is not just important—it’s everything. A loose cap will fall off, and a dented one will not seal properly. The easiest way to ensure you get the right part is to match the cap to your axle’s capacity.
-
3500 Bearing Caps: Designed for our standard 3500 lb. capacity axles.
-
5200 Bearing Caps: The heavy-duty cap designed for both our 5200 lb. and 7000 lb. capacity axles.
A quick tip on installation: A bearing cap should be installed with a rubber mallet or by placing a block of wood over the cap and tapping it in evenly with a hammer. Never strike the cap directly with a metal hammer, as this will dent the face and compromise the seal.
